I'm sure I heard an MP say on Newsnight that it happened so long ago, and with the lost evidence an investigation is not likely to be successful.

It happened in the 1980s, Rolf Harris was convicted on offenses that happened from 1968 to the mid 80s. Pretty much all of the evidence came from witnesses coming forward. So it's obviously well worth further scruitiny.

PS Tebbit is going up in my estimation

I don't often watch the 'Abbott and Portillo Mutual Appreciation Show' AKA Andrew Neil on BBC but I caught the tail end last night in which they made a striking observation....

"Where there are children, there are paedophiles"

And when Neil asked was there any substance or importance to be attached to the missing Brittan Dossier, both Abbott and Portillo in unison took a sharp intake of breath pursed their lips (their own not each others) and shook their heads, saying 'No.......No, no no no no no' in much the same way as a mechanic looking at your car or a plumber looking at your boiler.

Good pointers for opening this lot up with a thousand microscopes methinks!

          Prime Minister orders probe...

Cameron has ordered a probe into the missing dossier.

"And that is why I've asked the permanent secretary at the Home Office to do everything he can to find answers to all of these questions and make sure we can reassure people about these events."

I have to say, the statement does not give me confidence that he actually wants to identify, investigate and punish any wrongdoing over either the loss of the dossier or its' explosive contents

Hmmm. I notice I can no longer find certain names on Google in connections with "Scallywag magazine". Is this just lapse of time or was it why that EU law to allow removal of stories was really passed?

PS Yes I can, not looking hard enough.

I have heard similar stories from guys in f4j. Some are probably true - some of them made up. All the guys were screwed up.

One guy said he worked for an arms company and had damning evidence on several ministers. One day his house was raided, the evidence taken, and he was put into a van to a country house. He was taken into a room where 3 guys with white coats were seated. Each said I am DR XXXX and I certify you as insane. He was then taken to another room where he was told to sign a disclaimer saying all his claims were bollux or he would be locked up.

Tall story? I have never been sure. He was screwed up and was convinced in his own mind.

"make sure we can reassure people about these events" Yep, how can he reassure us? IF there were paedophiles operating out of Westminster, and it looks VERY likely, then they should be investigated. We don't want to hear Brittan did all he could/nothing to see here, when obviously there is.

What's the betting that this is another attempt to clear up and protect the paedos

It is believed that the Ministry of Justice may now examine how existing sexual offences laws could be amended to outlaw the distribution of sexual images without the person's consent.
