Halal Meat?

I really don't care.

I wonder whether the food at a Toby Carvery might taste better if it were halal, and conversely, whether Subway might be edible if it weren't.

If I worried about animal welfare, I'd be a vegetarian.

regarding the "taste better":
my understadning was that if the animal was conscious, then the fear, flight or fight, would cause the body to release glucose into the muscles, and thus makes the meat taste sweeter and more succulent.

Honestly dont know if that is true.
Heard the same thing about some koreans putting a live kitten into boiling water to get taster meat.
Of course, could be casting slurs against any outsider group.

But the glucose into meat during the death process somehow made sense.

Not really, no. "As much as possible" would be "don't kill it" since there's no necessity to eat meat. It's killing an animal to eat it - this is inherently a fairly brutal thing.

I heard the opposite, that meat from an animal in pain is tainted in some way. Quite possibly both are bunk.

I was watching one of those Discovery Alaska programmes, and they said the opposite. They were killing one of their cows by shooting it in the head, but said you don't want to get it panicked before hand because the adrenalin will spoil the taste.

I am not willing to give up meat but I don't really want to think the animal was awake when its end came.

If they are stunned in normal fashion I don't have a problem with somebody saying a daft prayer but I certainly object to the other sort which is about 12% of Halal/Kosher meat according to the RSPCA.
