BBC News - What are the Somerset Levels?

It's one of lowest and flattest areas in the country with much of it below high water level on spring tides, and a maximum altitude of only 25ft (8m) above sea level.

So it's not below sea level, it's below Spring tides, which is due to the moon.

Do Windmills and eye watering energy bills make the moon go away?

      NOAA Ice forecast

Summer minimum above average. This is not good for scientists predicting an arctic death spiral. You can see where the trend is heading.

This is getting a little semantic. I cannot prove that tobacco causes lung cancer, but I sure ain't gonna start smoking ...
Lets just say climate change is being influenced by human activity and what "evidence" is there that the remedies on offer (controlling human behaviour, taking money from the rich, banning cars, banning flying , giving money to scientists and building expensive wind turbines) is going to make any difference?

As far as I see it climate change is being exploited by scientists, socialists and control freaks/opportunists to extort money from people to distribute amongst themselves.

That would be the output from CFSv2, that's erm a model.

And it uses the period 1999-2010 as its 'average'. Just to put that in context ...

The trend in what, made-up stuff?

True. But there are quite a few of those in the non-climate change camp too.

Personally I could not give a stuff. Nice thread though.......

That's because you don't see very far. There is always a rush to make money out of anything. That doesn't mean the problem is illusory.

As for complaining about giving money to scientists, how the hell else do you think the question will get resolved one way or the other? You'd prefer to live in ignorance?
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

err yes where else? do you know other ways of looking into the future?

Anyway you can prepare yourself to "eat crow" when it happens....

I thought you would like to know so that you can spend the entire summer looking forward to the newspaper reports about a massive ice recovery and how scientists made fools of themselves predicting a death spiral.

Oh by the way here is a comment from one of your friends on Real Climate...

If we don’t get a big El Niño this year or soon, with a spike in global average temps, we’re gonna lose more and more of the climate “undecided” to the denier side… that’s the bust.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend...

The chart shows a prediction that the Arctic summer ice extent will be marginally above the average for the last decade. We have satellite data since 1979 and that shows a long term decade-on-decade decline at around 11% per decade.

So a single year 'dead cat bounce' might well be newsworthy to some, but we'll have to wait a few years more to see if its just a blip or a reversal of the trend.
