As long as Milliband or anyone else is not divorced from our culture and accepts the main British values like secular society and freedom of choice subject to public interests, background or colour is not important to most potential UKIP supporters. They are rightly worried about large numbers of those who have their own very different ideas about the direction our society should take. We were moving, very slowly, towards a more rational and equal society and don't need imported ideas from socially backward or religiously conservative countries.
It's the BNP that has this daft notion that British roots should go back hundreds of years and the lack of support for them rather indicates what most think of the idea. The British as a whole have a lot of common sense (unlike some who cast everyone as cretins) and don't tend to support nonsensical or unworkable ideas.bloggoth
