ok, since youre the one banging on about the wonderful economic benefits of being in the EU, let's look at the other side of the coin from the point of view of small business.

Do you think it's easy to set up and run a small business these days? One of the best things about Mrs Thatcher was that she was very small enterprise friendly. She created an environment that was friendly to small ennerprise. Indeed, my own parents set up a small chandlers in Falmouth and made a healthy living from it until the mid 90s.

Think it's easy to do something similar today? Of course not. Nowadays the environment is a hostile one and much of these enterprise inhibiting directives originate in the EU and are enshrined in law by our own subservient politicians.

Yes, I reckon its pretty much easy to set-up and run a small business these days.

I can't see how any EU directives have interfered in my business, on the other hand last year I had French and German clients and it was easy to do business with them.

Dunno about Britain, but forming a company in NL takes a couple of hours and you can then go and hire premises and get the permits for most businesses within a day or so at the local council. Right here in Euroland. It's never been easier than now to start a business in NL.

Is that due to the EU or governments making it easier using technology because the populace demanded improvements?

If you want to claim all improvements are down to the EU then expect us to claim the opposite.

I was doing business with French, German and Dutch businesses 25+ years ago and apart from currency conversions it was pretty easy. We also did business with Brunei & Africa with fair ease.

Try and get any buildiing product or chemical tested and certified to EU /TGV standards costs an absolute fortune.

It's due to the Dutch government reducing regulation so that it can compete with other EU countries like Britain, Ireland and so on; the EU did absolutely nothing to stop NL reducing its legislation on company formation or business start-ups. Oh, and 25 years ago the UK was in the EC, which is basically what I'm trying to defend.
