Seems like a high altitude breakup in which case the debris at that height has a fair spread into the ocean.

Black box transponder has a limited radius of a few kilometers which makes pinpointing it to the above scenario a little tricky.

May take a few days to discover the wreckage.

Seems if you survive the explosive decompression you can make it down after a 36000 foot drop

Totally inappropriate but an interesting read

Fascinating read! Thanks Troll for the find

But I suspect the chances of survival from above scenario are pretty low.

Oh bugger, one of the hyperMogs has done a tulip. It stinks!!! And no GF#1 to clear it up.

It's not actully the phone ringing you hear when you dial it anyway, it's the exchange or voicemail platform.

What evidence exists to support this?

The a/c was checked in the last two weeks. Not only that the B777 has an excellent safety record.

It was repaired after scraping a wing on the tarmac though wasn't it? Not sure it's relevant but still...

I'm sorry, I really can't be arsed to argue with a thicky.

But wouldn't a high altitude breakup be something the pilots would notice before it happens? Surely they should notice something odd with the instruments etc. and tell 'the tower' or whomever that all is not well?
