The fin didn't "fall off", it became detatched after the the plane it had been attached to bounced off a seawall during a sub-optimal landing manouvere.

It seems that, highly unusually, there were no comms from the plane (unless the Malays are hiding something).
This made me think of some catastrophic event, but what if it was a slow decompression thus rendering the pilots unconscious.
If the plane was on autopilot it would continue flying before ditching somewhere they're not looking.
If it wasn't on auto, I guess it would just descend into the ground/sea.

Any pilots on here care to comment? HyperD?
