    Potholes

I hit a very large pothole last weekend and, coincidentally, I started getting a knocking sound coming from the rear of the car when taking sharp corners.

Anti-roll bar bracket is fubared. £350 to fix.

A drop in the ocean, I hear you say, but following the advice on Potholes.co.uk - Home Page I'm jumping on the compo bandwagon. I'm not holding my breath but the state of some stretches of roads that I cover whilst going about my business is on a par with that of 3rd world roads.

Now, I'm sure I am going to get a very conciliatory letter in response from Wiltshire County Council explaining that they are doing everything in their powers to meet the challenges posed to our Road network from the unprecedented weather events resulting from man made climate change and I stand very little chance of getting any lolly. But I'm actually quite cross because my road tax jumped by an order of magnitude above Inflation a couple of years ago to £225 (not to mention fuel duties) and the state of our roads has got so much worse.

Not wishing to put on the old rose tinted specs but our roads never used to be in this sort of state.

Anyhow, nothing like a Monday to bring out the inner Daily Mail reader

Not that the maintenance of the roads isn't terrible, but we don't have "Road Tax" and VED isn't linked to the upkeep of the roads.

Good luck on your claim, though.

FFS, they are about £10 to £30 for a BMW one and its takes a max of 15 minutes to replace!

Funny you should mention that as I was listening to the radio and one of the adverts for the new Lexus mentioned it costs nothing in Road Tax, whereas you're correct in stating that it is indeed VED. It seems to be a common mistake that a lot of people make.

It says the bracket, though - I was going to post something similar, but then I remembered spending the best part of a day changing the ARB on a Fiesta because one the bolts on a bracket had been rounded off and was near enough in the middle of the car, underneath the engine. Doing it properly would have meant dropping the subframe, though I managed to sort it without in the end.

Also, Anti Rollbars themselves aren't that cheap - especially on hotter cars. You're not thinking of the droplinks, are you?

If it needs a new bar / brackets and maybe some welding, it could easily be a good few hours of garage work. And she doesn't say what the car is.

I've got some pics of it including some reference points so a bit hard for them to deny its existence.

Actually, it's not just the bracket - there's some damage to the mechanism at both ends as well. Don't remember/understand the technicalities.

Shouldn't a 4X4 be able to handle a few potholes

It's designed to be used off road surely
Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.

I'd think so, Mrs S has a Hyundai Tucson and you can barely feel potholes when you go over them. The in-laws have a RAV4 and they're quite robust I suppose it depends on just how big the pothole was and what speed the vehicle was doing at the time.

Yes I was thinking of drop links. I remember now; the anti roll bar on the Sierra was a pig
