I always wonder why it is that you never hear of organisations like the RSPCA speaking out against this awful practice.

As one commenter mentions, the welfare of living, breathing creatures has to come above the preferences of religion.

Not of course, that non halal/kosher methods are always humane but the point is they should be and the standards should be much more rigorously enforced.

I mean, how lily livered would that be? Public bodies being afraid to speak out because of that particular Sword of Damacles hanging over them...

I don't know why it is. PC, no doubt, and I wouldn't mind betting that the tentacles of the insidious Common Purpose have reached seemingly benign outfits like the RSPCA.

Good for Denmark. Cruelty to animals, circumcision, treatment of women as second class citizens, I don't know why irrational religion is always a get out from rational laws.

Probably for similar reasons the eco-hypocrites, the RSPB, do not speak out against the vast arrays of bird chompers (windmills), preferring instead to quote the mantra over their raison d'être: "the needs of the many funding outweighs the needs of a few old rare birds".

Essentially the Koran is a handbook for surviving in the desert centuries ago when there was no refrigeration or other means of preserving food.

That's why pork is proscribed - because it spoils very quickly. Its why you only eat an animal that was killed while fully conscious so it could be seen to be fit and healthy at time of death.

Probably sensible precautions in that day and age

However, times have moved on and so should the adherents of these religions...

It is right to make both Halal and Kosher methods of slaughter illegal. We do not need stone-age treatment of animals in Britain.
