Agreed - it was never meant to be about individuals, it's a metric that only really works on a population level.Originally posted by Mich the Tester View PostIt's not even accurate for the moderately athletic people who run once or twice a week and play footy, squash etc at the weekend. It's also not accurate for people with heavy physical work like soldiers, firemen, fishermen, builders, policemen who walk a beat all day, labourers, etc etc. That's a lot of exceptions, too many for my liking. Waist measurement is a better indicator, or actually waist to height ratio.
That said, I'm just a few kg's overweight, but it's all just podge on my belly and nobody ever believes that I weigh 14 stone. I exercise a lot, but I unfortunately eat a lot of tulip too - according to my GPS watch I burned something like 60000 calories last year, so I dread to think what I'd be like if I stopped.Comment

Some people are fat and muscular and fit. But don't underestimate how many people are quite muscular; at the same time as many people have got chubbier due to the huge supply of food, a lot of people who do moderate to hard physical work have also increased muscle bulk because alongside fat and sugar, protein is also more readily available than in the past.Originally posted by mudskipper View PostNah, I'm OK on BMI, but waist to height ratio is a big fail. So I'll stick with BMI, ta.
But yes, fine physical specimens without an ounce of fat on them can ignore my poll.
Problem is that lots of overweight people (thinking Mr ms here!) insist that they are overweight because they're muscular, when they are in fact very fat.And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014Comment

Bloody hell, I'm a "healthy weight" now and I'm built like a well whittled stick. That thing reckons I could loose another 12kg and still be healthy. I think I'd need to have a leg amputated for that to happen. While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'Comment

I am just inside the healthy range on BMI (24.6) after doing exercise. Sadly, All my spare weight is on my tummy in a blob. Gone down an inch or two on my waist but no obvious difference to the naked eye.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment
