Beckham was more a wide player. We are talking about up and down the middle of the pitch.

Keane behind Scholes was what they had (Scholes was a bit of a dodgy tackler), after Keane went I suppose it was Fletcher behind Scholes wasn't it?

He did play CM in the champions league final mind you, while keane and scholes took the day off

But yes, miles better out wide when at united.

Scholes didn't defend well either - we need somebody as a play maker, somebody who can hold the ball. Maybe Mata and Carrick can do that well? Just an idea.

Well as I say I'm an outsider, but I don't see a lot of good defensive ability among the two of them, which is vital these days.

Besides, Carrick is 33 in the summer so time isn't on his side. Didn't Moyes start playing Felliani there, in the two?

True say. Probably Fletcher will be the more defensive option and he will sit infront of the defenders. Rooney and Mata may be the 2 that link up in midfield and move forwards.

Not sure what the point of Fellaini is to be honest - he seems to be better going forwards and driving into the box.

Mata's statistics over the past two seasons are incredible. For me, the exciting thing is the amount of chances he will create wherever he plays. Rooney and Van Persie should thrive off the service.

I think the best of Fellaini is yet to be seen, he's always performed well against united in the past so you would think he could cut it at the top level.
