Out of interest, Dodgy, is running a recruitment consultancy the present day equivalent of the church or the infantry officer class, as a dumping ground for the idiot son?

There are class systems everywhere. within school parents groups, prisons etc etc. Most countries the class system is defined by money.. how one dimensional and tedious is that?

          It's a living

I have no inherited wealth, and although I am fairly posh I am quite comfortable mixing with knobs. The advantage of running an IT recruitment agency is that I get to see the class system from the other end too

True, but in northern Europe it's not simple either, and it certainly isn't in those places that were under the influence (in other words occupied by) the USSR until recently. It gets quite complicated there, especially with Germans called ' von' something or other. Did their family side with Hitler (many hated him but felt obliged to join the German army), did they side with Honecker after the war (a few did, most notably this nutter), did they leave and return later, all sorts of variants, but they'll still have certain habits and attitudes that denote their background, even if in some cases their titles have gone and the wealth has been confiscated at some time or another.
