It can be. Last time I happened to walk past when one was i progress, a boat got stuck in a tree and had to be pulled out by a little RIB.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishing -

It's interesting how few of these you'll find on the Sunday times rich list these days.
- some are just broke and living in what is effectively a very stately slum
- others have spread their wealth among family members and multiple children to reduce the inheritance tax burden, or have put it in trust where it's not legally their own money
- new wealth in oil/IT/business can in some cases be quite considerableAnd what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014Comment

The world revolves around class systems I am afraid. the beauty of the class system in the Uk is that is much more subtle and complicated than any other class system. I wish my outfitters would email me - to remind me who they are! I ordered a couple of made-to-measure trousers from a shop in Jermyn street about a year ago. But having lost one pair (possibly left in a dry cleaners, but not sure), I'd now like to order another pair. (The guy said they would keep my measurements on file, so it would just be a matter of phoning them.)Originally posted by original PM View PostHmm somehow I have managed to get on the mailing list for a gents outfitters who I would say seem to be aiming at the posh end of the market...
But now I can't for the life of me remember the name of the shop, and it isn't on a label on the trousers. I even tried phoning two or three shops, to ask if they had a Mr OwlHoot on their books. But no joy.
At this rate I'll have to walk down the whole street in Google Street Map, and ring every shop. (Driving there is out of the question because hordes of traffic wardens patrol up and down and stand in groups on every street corner like Victorian policemen! So one can't park for five minutes without being ticketed.)

I find it completely useless. IMO people with inherited wealth who go around thinking they're 'better' for no other reason than the accident of birth have absolutely no value.Originally posted by DodgyAgent View PostThe world revolves around class systems I am afraid. the beauty of the class system in the Uk is that is much more subtle and complicated than any other class system. I knew a lot of them in my childhood and youth and saw a few of them recently. Had absolutely nothing to talk about, just washed up druggies carrying on like they're still at Uni when they're in their 40's...
I find the whole stuck up thing quite dated and just a sad display of insecurity. I don't see it reserved for just posh or rich either.
There are however people with inherited wealth who have done great things with it though as there are also 'posh' people who are really down to earth and you'd never know that that bloke in the pub with the clapped out VW was eighth cousin twice removed from the Queen...
I know someone like that. He's well spoken but other than that you'd have no clue
