This gave document title, number of pages and printer location.
    Loads of companies have that and they aren't all in finance.

    Also disabling usb ports and CD/DVD drives is common likewise encrypting hard discs is as well.

      As I found out starting this gig where they gave me a laptop that wouldn't work with a keyboard and mouse for the first day-ish.

        ^^ yes, many big companies do their best to make it impossible to do your job. Smaller companies often let you actually take responsibility for your actions and actually make a useful contribution.

I was just wondering if these threats are real or just designed to scare the individual. Is it likely the person will actually be affected by it?
          Within the past 3 months, I have seen a contractor escorted off premises for e-mailing a document to his personal address. The document was tagged "confidential" - even though the contents were hardly ground-breaking. But because it was tagged confidential, it was deemed an on the spot firing offence.

          Source code would be regarded as confidential - although it was probably copied and pasted from Stack Overflow.

              I've seen it a Pharma company and one of the big drinks companies.

              Was the code he emailed this bit?
              Code:
                 public static void main(String args[]) {

                    for(int x = 10; x < 20; x = x+1) {
                       System.out.print("value of x : " + x );
                       System.out.print("\n");
                    }
                 }
              Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!

                Yes - but they were using vba so it didn't run.

                  Well he can expect to be interviewed, so if it he posted a bit of code simply to work on at home, probably get a slap on the wrist. It's a bad idea to do anything like this. There was a developer at one bank who pinched code and was offering it to other banks.
                  I'm alright Jack

                    At current clientco, sending any email to your own personal email address is an offence worthy of contract termination.

                    I have a dispensation so I can send a PDF of my timesheet to my business account each week.

                    Other than that I don't want to test it to find out how strict the policy is.
                    Never has a man been heard to say on his death bed that he wishes he'd spent more time in the office.
