Bathroom electrics are no more complicated than other types, however it's illegal IIRC and you definitely have to get it certified even if not. If you are putting in an electric shower, I think you are definitely not allowed, because it connects directly to the main breaker.

Other than that, £1000 sounds pretty low if this is to include an entire suite and retiling & decorating the whole room. Not unrealistic, but certainly not luxury either. Worth splashing out more for premium stuff?

Not to wire up maybe, but there are a lot of restrictions. Certain lights fittings have to be used within certain zones (based on steam from showers/bath), there are also a lot of restrictions on how you wire up pumps and under floor heating (if it is electric) IIRC.

Therein lies the rub. The regs change and if it's not something you do for a living, it's a PITA to work them out I should think.

The irony is that while suity's away in Jersey for the week, there are any number of tradesmen who are popping in every day - surely between them they could sort it out.

Suity, a grand for a new bathroom is derisory. For a start, go to Aston Matthews and get some decent fittings, including a metal bath. A plastic bath is the utter pits and will give you endless trouble with leaks round the seals.
