Google "Christian discipline" if you want to be really shocked.

Read an article about that on the bbc. It did bring a biblical expression to mind.

Spare the sledge hammer, spoil the child. Since we are all animals, I always think these things are best decided by seeing what nature does and apes and lionesses cuff their offspring too.

Some might point out that male lions will also eat their ousted rival's offspring. So? If nature deems it necessary for survival, why not? Saves going to the supermarket. Yum, yum.

IMHO if any parent has not been exasperated beyond belief from their offspring to the extent they are driven outside the norms and do things they regret are either living in treehugsville or are so wet it's untrue, like Brendan Frasers second wish personae (or third, if you count McDonald's) in Bedazzled....

Notice not saying it's right, but it's inevitable, who's not kicked the cat cos its shat in your slippers....

That would only be the case if your initial statement was accepted. As it obviously wasn't, your guess is a bit silly. However, the use of the word "retard" to indicate a stupid person is incredibly offensive to those who have, for example, children with learning difficulties and you should hang your head in shame for upsetting your parents like that.

You see that guy ringed? That's not you two. You're they guys with your hands in the air, after Von Ribbentrop said "Simon says put your hand in the air".

It's not about parents getting exasperated or at the end of their tether imho, its about state interference in every nook and cranny of our lives.
That and the sanctimonious do-gooders who like to feel superior and want to tell us how to live our lives according to their standards and expectations.

As CS Lewis said (and BGG)
'Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience'

My point exactly. damn well said.

If there have been fashionable causes through history that later get reviled, there must be one going around now.
I would ask these two which is the cause that they currently stand against, which brings them ridicule, financial penalty , ostracisim and even risk of harm
