Really? The GDP of Tuvalu is $0.04 billion and its land area is 26 square km. It already has one airport, where are they going to put the other two and how are they going to pay for all these hotels? What is indisputable is that people in the front line, who should know what they are talking about have VERY firm views on CAGW.
Tuvalu , the low lying islands in the Pacific, for example , have invested billions.
not on sea defences though. They are building two new airports and fifteen luxury hotels
What is indisputable is a history of dubious factual accuracy. I think someone has their myths confused, did you mean the Maldives perhaps? My subconscious is annoying. It's got a mind of its own.Comment

They don't have a lot to worry about.Last edited by BlasterBates; 19 December 2013, 11:23.I'm alright JackComment

Is that why they're building all these airports and hotels?Originally posted by BlasterBates View PostComment

Hmm, I might have worked on that satellite and other weather and earth imaging satellites and I do know that the data that they receive and the the data that the general public gets to see is first manipulated so don't believe everything...Originally posted by pjclarke View Post
The Cryosat data is interesting and surprising, while it is relatively straightforward to measure sea ice extent - defined as sea with at least 85% ice cover -from space, estimating volume requires a measure of the thickness, and Cyrosat was the first mission specifically designed to do this. Here's the press release from the source
Arctic sea ice up from record low / CryoSat / Observing the Earth / Our Activities / ESA
Ah yes, the trend ...

Tuvalu sea level changes
Sigh, here we go again, a single cherry-picked short term graph from the blog of one John McClean - a 'Computer consultant and occasional travel photographer'
Such quality sources. El Nino can vary sea level by up to 30cm in a single year, so once again, you need more data points accurately to determine a trend.
Here's the relevant academic literature, Becker (2011) is a study of sea level rise in the western tropical Pacific Ocean using a combination of tide gauges, satellite-based measurements, ocean modelling and GPS. They found
Their actual number is +5.1 (±0.7) mm per year, the 2010 report of the South Pacific Sea Level and Climate Monitoring Project found a similar rate to date of +4mm / year.Superposition of global mean sea level rise, low-frequency regional variability and vertical ground motion shows that some islands of the region suffered significant ‘total’ sea level rise (i.e., that felt by the population) during the past 60 years. This is especially the case for the Funafuti Island (Tuvalu) where the “total” rate of rise is found to be about 3 times larger than the global mean sea level rise over 1950–2009.
Even assuming no increase in that rate, large parts of Tuvalu will be underwater mid-century, high tides wil be higher, aquifers will be polluted with sea water, foundations eroded. But nothing to worry about according to BB, who relies on John McClean, travel photographer. My subconscious is annoying. It's got a mind of its own.Comment

Tuvalu is a low lying Island in the Pacific where they've been whining about sea levels making their island uninhabitable.Originally posted by pjclarke View PostReally? Hotels also sprouting up in the Maldives

In other news
Phil Jones of the CRU has sent the results of two footie matches involving Man U to prof M.Mann. The results from the matches, one in 1999 , the other in 2007 have been measured scientifically, catelogued and sent to James Hansen, formerly of NASA. He has homogenised and adjusted the result and passed it to the modellers who can now confirm :-
Man U are currently top of the premiership by six points. Their position is a record and the last five seasons have been amongst the highest on record
Therefore by the end of the season they will be six hundred points ahead and footie refugees will flee to Old trafford where the last breeding pair can be seen in the dug out after the full time whistle
anyone who disagrees is a denier(\__/)
