Ive a Tacx I-Magic, hardly used it in 5 years, I prefer to get out on my MTB for a 60 minute blast than sit inside getting bored (even watching spinnervals/TV doesnt help).

I think the major issue with I-Magic, VR type turbo's is the extra palarva having to hook them up to a computer. I think id have turbo'd a lot more if I just had a regular 'flow' model.

Also can trainer tyre be used on the road? Or do I need a new wheel as well?
I use Lady Tester's bike on the Tacx in winter as she doesn't ride outside in the cold; it has a cheapo Maxxis Detonator tyre (cheap in NL anyway) which works fine on the road and hasn't been shredded by the trainer.

Have a straight forward turbo that I use a couple of times a week over the winter. No bells and whistles, just a constant resistance level.

Don't bother with DVD's or VR stuff, just stick the radio on and go through a workout. Set up the workout on this app on my phone and it times the intervals and calls out the changes for me.

Don't use the bike computer functionality on it as I already have a Garmin Edge, but it's a damn sight easier than having your interval written on a bit of paper.

As other said, ideally you want a second wheel and tyre to swap in and out for the turbo, but I've been using the same tyre on mine for a few months now after the hub o the turbo wheel died and I haven't noticed the difference in wear.

I've got a Tacx. As other people have said, it comes with it's own QR skewer so it should fit any standard road bike.

I just use the radio/TV to occupy myself whilst riding. Put an old t-shirt over the top bar on your bike as you will sweat like never before riding on a turbo.

Not yet. Expecting to take delivery later this week. Going to get the remaining miles out of my rear tyre on it then plump for a blue tyre.

I used one of them. You may need a housebrick under front wheel to level it up, if you are a mountain biker you definitely need a slick on the rear, knobblies make a lot of noise.

It comes with a front wheel block. We shall see.

Edit : Makes sense to use the road bike as

                    a) It's lighter so makes setting up easier
                    b) It's my babe so doesn't set foot out in the inclement weather, that's what the mountain bike is for.

^ mine didn't, not sure it's the same name, but shape, qr, resistance cable, foldability are identical. It's great. I'm going back 13-17 years btw.
