I still have the permie attitude to money, I budget like there is no tomorrow so I always know exactly where I am financially and how long I have until the money runs out. I also made sure that I got rid of any debts so that my out goings while on the bench will be as minimal as possible

Isn't that a common sense approach rather than a permie approach? I would have thought with the flexibility and risk contractors carry you would expect it would be contractors that did this more than permies as well.

I do the same but am worse (or better depending on how you look at it) as a contractor than I was permie. It used to be making ends meet and savings. Now it is a lot more about the future.

:-) I found his use of "shall" for "will" a trifle archaic but I think it might just be a regional difference - and since I'm very much in favour of regional differences in speech and language (except the use of the Septics' spelling and vernacular), I decided not to mention it.
