I use the 520 and the 820. Actually the 520 is an amazing phone for the money. There is a big update coming soon to 8.1, I think that could be a massive leap for the phone.

I think next year will be a massive catch up year for windows on all platforms, supplemented by the new xbox.

Have you seen the size of that screen? What is the obsession with ever larger screens? Suddenly I start thinking do I want to carry this around with me all the time?

In many ways I'm still liking the iPhone 4 screen size over the new iPhone5, but I prefer the light-weight of the new phone.

The advantage about a Windows phone is that it more of a business phone and comes with “Office” . I find it very handy for writing ad-hoc documents and then synchronising them with the laptop. The problem with most phone they are built for entertainment.

I have a Lumia 800 and looking to upgrade next year.

Apart from some annoying charging and ending calls issues it's a great phone and will probably get one of the new WP8.1 phones when they come out.

I have a Nokia 820. IMO Windows mobile O/S is the best thing Microsoft have created.
I don't need many apps: Kindle being the main one. But as OP has noted has Office apps which you can sync.
Will upgrade to the top of the range Nokia, for free, next cycle.
Then will have a phone, all my books to hand via Kindle, and an excellent camera in one package.
Brilliant for travelling around with.

If you've got a big screen on a phone, there's less need to have a tablet as reading books, watching videos, remoting into servers etc is a lot less fiddly
