Yes, if all food producers/retailers raised there prices in concert every 6 months until people were starving to death all the while enjoying bigger and bigger profits there would be a revolt. Obviously the food market is much more diverse and works properly, has proper competition and choice.

I don't have a problem with companies making profits, however when their product is something that is needed to live it becomes an issue.

But these companies need to make a profit in order to invest in the infrastructure to provide new renewable energy sources, apparently.

how do our energy prices compare to the rest of Europe?

Does that factor in cost of living, average salary etc? Probably not, therefore useless.

I suspect that UK energy prices are lower than quite a few European countries but they're not really UK companies, the top 6 in order of customers:

British Gas UK
EDF Energy France
E.ON UK Germany
npower Germany
Scottish Power Spain
SSE UK

I presume that these profits flow back to the holding companies in some tax haven somewhere other than their respective countries...

Each of the big 6 energy companies are announcing price rises over the next two months. SSE were first.

nPower are to announce the same fairly shortly.

It doesn't take much intelligence to work out that Greece is poorer than the UK and has lower (if any) wages.
We are now building a proper perspective much to the annoyance of those who have already made their minds uup
