I'll put it differently.
You do lock your doors at night, for you know it is an important part of safety, both personally, and for your possessions. No doubt it would affect your insurance too.
Now, moving that on, if you were abroad on holiday with your children (god I hope you don't procreate), would you think it important to lock the doors, for your safety, and your possessions?
