I don't know London well so can anyone advise me on the area? Am I right that this is the silicon roundabout?

It'd be a weekly-commute and my preference is accommodation very close, i.e. walking if possible, or staying somewhere very close to another tube station. I would like to go the serviced apartment / aparthotel route - basically a modern studio apartment with a kitchen so I can cook and make sandwiches, etc. I have no interest in going to London all week and then slumming to save pennies, if I'm there I do it properly.

For instance this place came up Landmark Apartments, Short Stay Serviced - Rivington Street, London but I don't really know what the right search terms are.

There is a pub in nearby Hoxton and the landladies smack head son serves up smack from behind the bar. Sometimes he falls asleep and people serve themselves free beer. I can PM you the address if you like. You will also come across squat parties around Old Street that are run regularly in disused buildings around there. You can pick up any gear you want in those places, so you should be ok to get blockup in the week.

My first ever IT job was in chiswick st... What a scary dump it was. Now it's full of tosspot arty types riding the silicon roundabout while being utterly clueless about who and what goes on after dark...

Plenty of prostitution, drugs and muggings abound for the unwary.

Bear in mind that old street is about ten minutes away from the Bank of England by foot so it's never going to be a cheap place to live
