I'm not sure which utopia you live in, but where I live you get paid what you can get. I agree we are probably less efficient than our German counterparts they usually impress me with their skill & knowledge.
Ah, ja flew straight over me.

The country sounds like changed days, admittedly I've not been living there for the past 5 years but the thought it's taking what you can get rather than choice makes me think desperate times.

Your payment is dictated by the market, and the market rate varies with geographical area. People in the SE earn more because it costs more to live there, so people are less willing to work there compared to other cheaper places. Hence, an employer in say Basingstoke HAS to pay more than someone in Scotland, or they won't be able to attract people.

You may not like it, I don't particularly like it either, but that is how it is.

We keep that policy up, and focus on just one corner of the country, eventually employers will just send the work off-shore. We'll learn the hard way long before it gets better.

indeed, i would like to see the Government to remember the rest of the country in its job creation schemes.

Thats for contracting, although even then there are some differences. Now if you were a permie I think you'll find that depending on where you live and work the salaries can vary greatly, much like in the UK. I have a lot of friends from the 'neue Bündesländer' category who travel to the west to work as the salary is much greater yet still live in the east as the cost of living is cheaper.

This is the UK. We don't have health insurance unless you take out a private policy. Kind of the point.

I'd rather the politicians focus on real problems than hypothetical ones. Not introducing a scheme to try and counter a problem with benefits culture because a few people might feel hard done by in some hypothetical scenario is daft.

ANY scheme, any change in benefits or taxation, however good it is overall, will be negative on someone. That's why whatever one party proposes in the budget, the other can find some demographic who are being "penalised".
