I fear these kinds of events will continue for a long time. We basically have areas of the globe which are to all and intents and purposes lawless. These includes parts of Somalia, Yemen, Afganistan/Pakistan, North East Nigeria...etc. As long as poverty and ignorance is allowed to fester in these areas then they'll remain a breeding ground for Islamic (and other) extremists. I think it's time the world considered a Marshal Plan 2 for a lot of these areas.

You have to remember, with this great poverty, and shorter life expectancy, comes a lesser value on life itself, which leads to people being able to butcher others.

Well Stalin and communist China both tried (and failed), and neither of those regimes were notable for a decrease in cruelty and mass murder...Originally posted by russell View PostThe sooner religion dies out the better.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

In context...
At the Khaybar Massacre and the birth of the battle cry Allahu Akbar, Mohammed's cousin asked why he meant to massacre the Jews
"Fight with them until they bear testimony to the fact that there is no god but Allah and Mohammed is his messenger" he repliedComment

Anyone noticed this?
All hail the heroic journalist; in photo 1 a man carries an injured woman. In photo 17, a journalist is seen 'rescuing' the same woman after her foot has been bandaged. Not much to say, but I noticed.

no but it would be nice for Muslims in general to condemn the violence just as the Pope & Archbishop of Canterbury did in the Christian attacks.Originally posted by Mich the Tester View PostWhy should he condemn 'muslims' in general? Do you condemn catholics and protestants for what happened in Ireland? Do you condemn atheists for Stalin's purges?

Groups IMHO should be inherently moral.
Now not sure how Atheists would combine to condemn Stalin's as they are not normally a group, I'm sure if you asked them individually the vast majority would see Stalin's behaviour as unacceptable in a civilised society.Comment

Interesting that all those areas are predominately muslim -are poverty and ignorance the result of following a flawed religious belief or does Islam flourish in areas of natural - i.e. little or no resources -poverty?Originally posted by sirja View PostI fear these kinds of events will continue for a long time.
