    3. We are not talking about usage, you can't compare a one-bed flat and a 4-bed house - the whole point of this conversation is relative prices in Germany and Uk due to Germany's silly energy policy - and as my link shows both leccy and gas are cheaper here.

    HTH, BISDI.
    1. Ok, house in surrey, same fecking thing.
    2. I thought it was for all.
    3. But still probably a bill for the same as your leccy
3 (snigger). How many live in his house, and how many yours. It's not linear.

Good maths there sas 4 follows 3 normally, unless in stats it's different

It's moot anyway, your bill for 2 adults and one kid, is kind of large.

I'll look at the graph. I know the Germans were paying more levies on their fuels and will ask some friends how it is.

If it's £260 a quarter to heat his water, then he must be bathing 8 times a day; that's huge...

My gas / leccy had jumped from £180 per month to £236 in the last year!!! Just moved it and got it back to £180. Also turned the timers down by an hour and a half a day. Absolutely exorbitant in the UK

He didn't mention heating. In any case his bill is a summer bill.
Our gas bill in summer won't be much at all.
I would guess heating is the biggest source of cost for most households.
You're right our leccy bill is large - I'm aware of that - mainly because we leave 2 security lights on at night and the way I like lighting in the house is many side lamps rather than an overhead. Must look into rationalising that somehow.
Telling though how it would be in the same ball park as a one-bed in Germany if we were to be careful.
        Hard Brexit now!

Sas, I really don't want to start an argument, mainly as yours tend to descend into name calling the moment you're proven incorrect. However, all he sad, was that his quarterly electricity bill was €310, or around £250-260. Around £85 a month. Most new flats I know, have everything powered by electricity, so you're assuming that's just for his water.

I'd take it that it was his average bill, for all, given it's a flat. Still fairly high, granted, but doesn't he live in Germany? I'd expect their winters to be a bit prickly too. If your bills were around £700 a quarter, that's an awful lot too.

But ostensibly, yes, German bills are higher. But £260 a quarter for all his energy isn't that much more than what it is here.

Quite interesting, that link, btw. Thanks.

My girls would bankrupt me in baths alone. I had to go Solar water heating, otherwise I can't imagine how much it would be. We had a ground source heat pump in the last place, so you couldn't change the temps, an we'll get them here too soon. Not too warm, but stays a constant 16, 17. We'll get a wood chip back boiler as a back up and leave the couple of open fires.

The OP said that was his last quarterly bill i.e. a summer bill, so its clear no heating was involved.
Reason I'm taking the piss out of him is his assumption that this was a particularly low bill and something to be proud of - hence my sig.
What you have to bear in mind as well is that German properties are usually much better constructed and insulated that UK ones - so the OP probably uses less energy than his equivalent in the UK.
Anyway I'm bored with this now - an objective link has shown Germans pay more for leccy and gas per unit, if we needed any more proof.
Have a nice week-end all ...I'm off to the depths of Sussex for lunch with Pater.

I've thanked you for the link, which was good. However, you weren't being honest about the hot water gaffe, which is what I was commenting on. For all we know, he may be getting his next one now, which covered summer.

You were manipulating his response, to suit your argument, when the facts you had were enough; it was another example of you attacking the man, not the argument, when you had the facts to kill the argument straight up.

Curious as to why you need to do it, that's all.

I'll bite as the missus is a bit slow getting ready.
                      What "gaffe" would that be?

                      In his own words:

I seem to recall a very dull thread about cars where the word "stupid" was repeated a fair bit by yourself. Not to mention your earlier incarnation being banned for being overly obnoxious.
So looking at the facts, not attacking the man, rather a bit rich and hypocritical coming from you, what, old boy?
