There is one important possibility that the politicians and the media are missing here - the possibility this was a terrorist attack. Suicide bombings have been happening in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon. Who is to say that the terrorists have not managed to get their hands on some chemical weapons?

Even better reason to establish what has happened before taking any action more like. Then we know we ought to support Assad rather than AlQaeda - once we have sorted out the terrorist groups then we can deal with Assad.

And how are you going to do that when Assad is in control? It's not like it's free to go area there - existance of chemical weapons is certainly beyond doubt, and considering that Assad is going to lose anyway (just a question when) it makes sense to deal with those while they are still in reasonably central locations.

Outlook right now though is that it's not likely now.

In March of this year "Rebels" AKA terrorists are believed to have used some form of chemical weapon which the UN were supposed to investigate. So it is not unlikely, in fact it is the most likely scenario....
