If Ballmer was doing his job properly he'd have his replacement appointed today - that person would have worked side by side in Microsoft so would know all issues. Having a committee formed to select next CEO is an indictment to utter failure of Ballmers leadership. You don't need to go further than Intel to see how much more professional they are there and they face same kind of existential problems as Microsoft does now.
    Sorry, but total bollox again.

    Exchange 5.5, 2000, 2003, 2007, 2010 and 2013
    Active Directory
    Windows Server: NT 3.5, NT 4, 2000, 2003, 2008 and 2012
Windows Desktop NT 4, 2000, XP, Vista, 7 And 8
    SQL
    SharePoint
    OCS and Lync
    Windows Mobile
    Azure
    FIM
    TMG
    UAG

the list goes on...how many jobs did the above create?

However, MS has been one massive job creation scheme...end of!

Without MS there would be no Linux...

Remember, the Internet was founded and based upon Unix...that OS which overtook Linux and is now used by the masses in the form of the iOS...I know you hate reading that fact, but Linux is dying...the war is between Windows and Unix. Who'd have thought eh?

So why are you not angry at Linus? Linux is his creation yet Unix beat Linux.

Sometimes it's better to just keep quiet instead of confirming everyone's suspicions.

iOS is Unix...as is everything Apple.

Sorry to break that to you.

And yes I know Linux is not Unix, it's just some cheapo freebie toss where no one wants to pay for anything but everyone hopes someone will fix the tulip for free...except that didn't work and along came red hat and their massive fees for support.

Hence why the world is still with MS and not with Linux. Hence why Ballmer is a billionaire whilst Linus Torvalds is not.

So the markets work for ditching Ballmer, whilst they don't for not favouring Linux...odd that?

Yes ur right - OSX 10.5 is certified Unix, I never knew that, Google told me after I read ur post. Can't see any reference to iOS though, not quite sure what OSX version that's based on - I know my hacked Apple TV was 10.4.....

Unlike some here I admit when I'm wrong - and I'm wrong!

Ballmer is being kicked into retirement while young lads from Google are going to continue destroying his empire whilst having fun with their personal projects.

Only Bill Gates can save Microsoft.

              +1000 on that!

My previous permie role saw us move from a Unix based logistics solution to an Oracle solution which sat on Red Hat Linux.

Christ on a bike, the support and licensing costs for the Red Hat solution was over double the cost of our Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter license, an MS license which came with support and unlimited VMs on the ESXi host, yet the Red Hat costs were just for one instance?

So the business paid this massive yearly cost and all we got was tulip support, "umming" and "arring" along with "we think it's a VMware issue" plus something like 2.5 million security patches per day!

              Complete and utter tulipe!

And then to top it all off, the developer then admits "yeah, we could get this to work on a Windows box but the boss hates Microsoft"...WTF?

I'm sorry, but these Linux freaks are just a danger to the business world!

For ios to be UNIX it needs to have a command shell, a compiler, and C APIs . I don't remember seeing those.

iOS - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It's there on the right of OS Family.

It's old news...the battle is Windows vs Unix and the Linix nuts hate Jobs more than Gates because Jobs delivered Unix to the masses in the form of iPods, iPhones and iPads.

The founders of Unix would be proud of what Jobs did for Unix. In fact, Jobs did more towards putting Linux out of business than Gates and Ballmer ever did!

The Linux crowd thought the enemy was MS, in fact it was Apple. They don't like discussing it...but Apple made sure Linux would never hit consumer mainstream.

Sorry about this guys, I know it hurts but Unix is out there more than crappy Linux.
