That's was done just by milking existing userbase which is now actively trying to get off the hook and switch to Linux etc.

Increase of wealth happened outside of Microsoft, and he just precided over totally pissing off existing user-base with tulip like Ribbon, Vista, Metro, Windows 8.

IE totally lost the war it won years ago - massive advantage that they had now is no longer relevant.

Other than games who is developing anything else for Windows desktop? It's a legacy platform now and that's how stockmarket values Microsoft.

Luckily they had Bing, Xbox but those don't generate big profits.

      LOL...nice try but utter bollox!

BTW, the iOS brought Unix to the masses whilst Linux is still a plaything.

Why aren't you frustrated at Apple for not using Linux?

I could not care less - masses use Linux via web interfaces to servers that run "cloud" stuff on it, with Microsoft licensing that would have NEVER happened because they'd insist on CAL for each Internet user.

I am a Microsoft user/developer since early DOS days, but for any new projects in the firm we now avoid using any dependency on Microsoft - Linux/Java, far safer bet now than .NET/Windows. Next Microsoft CEO has got maybe 2-3 years to change that trend, failure to do so would doom Microsoft to be Xerox of the new age.

And if you don't like my view then feel free to throw a chair at me...

Don't you love it when someone posts utter toss and then edits their post every 10 seconds?? Rather like Linux distros?

Wanna let me know when you're finished?

Sorry, but Apple brought Unix to the masses...they achieved what Linus T could not.

So why not direct your beef at Linus T instead of Ballmer?

Linux is a failure and only cheapskates use that junk, and only MS haters justify paying 4 times as much for red hat tulip!

            So...iOS = Unix...does that bother you?

Android is Linux with bootleg Java on it.

Linux was not a CEO of a multibillion company whose job was to ensure success of the products or get fired.

Works fine for us without retarded CALs and per-processor licensing.

                  OK...

Curious as to why your status thing reads as banned?

I'll keep my chair to myself if that's OK...LOL!!

And to address the above, Ballmer was part of the scene since 1980 so he was part of the innovation which lead to millions of jobs being created.

Even during his time as CEO he went on to create further innovation and jobs.

Funny how we don't have threads on the likes of Blair, Brown and Cameron? They've pissed billions up the wall yet we're celebrating the demise of a man who helped create millions of jobs and billions of dollars of wealth?

And then someone mentions Linux? The Karl Marx of Operating Systems! There is a reason for the "Red" in Red Hat...the massive support fees is one of them!
