Doesn't work if you have kids who are dependents.

Practically perfect in every way....there's a time and (more importantly) a place for malarkey.

I know you had your own problems, but the fact of the matter is that for most men with a decent job: The only game you can play once your wife turns to a solicitor is burned crops and decimated land. One of the dads from my school spent 12 hours in police custody last week because his wife decided to make accusations about him beating his kids. This is a teenager old who can't wait to move in with him, and wont even talk to his mother because of her behaviour since the breakup, but now there are child services involved and a whole raft of tulip and my mate is on the DNA register and has a criminal entry for the rest of his life...

There is no room for honourable settlements because the solicitor will just take your inch and then demand even more. Spending half an hour on mumsnet will show you that the solicitors have a tried and tested method of screwing fathers.
