That's a very historic religious view surely
Israel is in the middle of a land surrounded by peoples who would not bat an eyelid if every last Israeli was to die tomorrow. Some of the countries bordering Israel have avowed that their intention is to push Israel into the sea, every one of them would take Israel on now if they believed for one minute that they could beat them militarily.
Israel has to be tough and has to be seen to be tough. Let's not pretend that battles are fought out in the open, where soldiers meet other soldiers.
Hezbollah have been attacking Israel for a number of weeks, sending missiles into Haifa from the heart of towns in Lebanon. What do you suggest Israel does to counter? Discuss it with the UN (whose resolution for Lebanon to clear out Hezbollah from within it's borders has been how effective?), that talking shop, perhaps they could try to forge a peace with a terrorist organization whose raison d'etre is, let me think now, oh, yes, to bomb Israel off the map and to kill all Israelis, well, obviously there's some common ground there then, not. Perhaps they should just let themselves be killed off piecemeal, as no doubt the appeasers (and there are many of them, not always with a specific pro-arab agenda) would agree to.
I think that Israel could perhaps sometimes be more conciliatory towards it's neighbours, but hey, perhaps the jews remember what happened last time they tried appeasement, the road to Dachau, Auschwitz, Birkenau etc. was pathed with the intent to appease their enemies.
