It seems to me that psychological abuse has nothing to do with reason or intellect. It's all about getting in people's heads and being as much of a **** as you can. If the victim is a simple minded, vulnerable person who is ill equipped for psychological warfare then they may well retaliate physically.

That we demonise one so much more than the other troubles me somewhat. The consequences of psychological violence can be just as devastating as violence in a physical form.

Personally I believe the higher incidence of suicide among men might be explained by the fact that they are often subject to low level psychological abuse and lack strategies to deal with it.
