    If that's the case I'd argue that gay marriage should be legalised, but not until the obligation has been removed from a church to carry out that marriage. Registry offices are a different matter IMO.

          Marriage was used for registry office weddings, its no longer religious.

          C of E explicitly excluded in legislation.

              No, as I said there was an explicit mention that the C of E will not be forced. The danger is that will be challenged once the bill is approved.

                So perhaps it isn't yet time to legalise gay marriage, until the issues around forcing a religion to service it are sorted out?

                  As alluded to earlier, the answer should be to separate state and church but the C of E wouldn't want that as it would lose political power and other favours.
