You can get a brand new Zafira (not the Zafira Tourer which is very nice I might add) for just over £10k. Not sure how much the Tourer costs but you might pick up a dealer reg model for £15k or less if you haggle.I couldn't give two fornicators! Yes, really!

My brother has one, bought it new last year and got a discount of about 8 grand off it (great deal). However, its a big old bus and if you were wanting an estate, I think it would be outside a lot of people requirements size wise.Originally posted by Old Greg View PostTelling you mate, Peugeot 5008 is where it's at.
We used to have a second generation Espace which was great with the rotating front seats, especially when out on a pinic with the kids.
My top tip for an affordable estate though has got to be the Octavia estate. Solid build, German reliability and good residuals.I couldn't give two fornicators! Yes, really!

The 2003 ml350 I had was the worst car I have owned in many years. It rusted, components failed, it wore prematurely and the paint was wafer thin. The day I got rid of it was a good dayOriginally posted by Old Hack View PostThis may have been true with the 2004-2007 models, but E classes have been bullet proof for years. The wife just traded her 10 yo E320CDI estate for an R350CDI and I think the E class was better, with a little less room. I have smoked a GL320 for 3 years and nothing has gone wrong. I think Mercedes had a blip in the mid naughties, which they've fixed.

If you can find an extra 5K, the new Skoda Octavia has just been launched, and is available with all the technology (engines, gearboxes, satnav, dynamic cruise control, lane tracking, reversing camera, automatic parking) that are in the new Golf, but is a much bigger car and available in a better choice of colours and specs, for less than a Golf. The hatchback is better looking than the estate though.
In addition to huge space behind the seats, it is available with nice touches like under-seat storage and little removable rubbish bins that fit in the door pockets.Last edited by IR35 Avoider; 19 May 2013, 05:22.Comment

Hang on the extra 5k wont get you a nice one. it will buy you the most hateful underpowered pile of tulip that anyone could wish to buy (like buying any VAG). If you are really lucky you will end up with a DSG gearbox, and have a ticking time bomb that will write the value of the car off in a few years after the mechatronics pack up and cost you more than the car is worth to replace...Originally posted by IR35 Avoider View PostIf you can find an extra 5K, the new Skoda Octavia has just been launched, and is available with all the technology (engines, gearboxes, satnav, dynamic cruise control, lane tracking, reversing camera, automatic parking) that are in the new Golf, but is a much bigger car and available in a better choice of colours and specs, for less than a Golf. As a disclaimer I rate golfs and passats as the graveyard of the guy that couldn't be bothered to choose a car so let an ad-co do it for them... My wife's family are all golf/VW fanatics. Over the years every Saab I ever owned (Four of them) The first thing any of them ever said was "Wow this is so comfortable to sit in and what a smooth fast ride quality..."
E-class or a proper SUV will be the best choice availableComment

There is a reason why Taxi drivers could buy Mark 1 Octavias up to last year. VAGs are well built but all modern engines have a life expectancy far below what they used to have.Originally posted by bobspud View PostHang on the extra 5k wont get you a nice one. it will buy you the most hateful underpowered pile of tulip that anyone could wish to buy (like buying any VAG).
