Really like the E220cdi, Mercs provide the kind of drive that I really enjoy. I just don't trust them when it comes to reliability - back in the 80s and 90s they used to make amazing cars which were pretty much indestructible, now they just seem to have too many sensors, electronics etc and constantly fail.

This may have been true with the 2004-2007 models, but E classes have been bullet proof for years. The wife just traded her 10 yo E320CDI estate for an R350CDI and I think the E class was better, with a little less room. I have smoked a GL320 for 3 years and nothing has gone wrong. I think Mercedes had a blip in the mid naughties, which they've fixed.
