My CV was always in the 3rd person, I can't quite remember why. But two senior bods at current clientco have seen it and said it makes me sound like a twat, and that it should be in the first person. I've changed it, but I personally didn't mind it before.

Been keeping it to three pages for a few years. Third page is primarily one-liners in 8pt type.

I've found that very few people seem to read beyond halfway down the first page, but those that do read it all often have questions about older stuff, and are closely correlated with interesting gigs and good places to work.

My favourite was the first question in an interview the other year: "Could we just go back to your experience as a games developer in the 80s, not because it's relevant, but because it sounds really cool!"

3 pages here. Last page is some useless tidbits about engineering degree and visa status. First page has the most juicy bits and bold words like "AGILE", "SCRUM", "TDD/BDD" to seduce the pimps.

My favorite questions were from a development manager at an investment bank who noticed I was a re-enactor and wanted to know which weapons he should equip his character in WoW with to get through certain types or armour. After we talked for an hour or so he suddenly said:

"Oh, I had better ask you a software question. Erm ... what's a smart pointer?"

I answered and we carried on talking about weapons and armour.

They don't need to; their word filters don't mind how long our CVs are.

Clients care though. I got a 12 page CV send through to me once; each page covered in sprawling sentences to cover roles, and in pt8 font.

How many agents do you know who read your CV before they call?

I actually spoke to one the other day. He had read it! With his eyes / brainbox! Incredible.
