A deep cycle battery of the kind used on boats and caravans should give you a fair few hours of light between charges.
You'd also want to invest in some kind of solidly built battery carrier with wheels. Your local garage or the caravan forums can probably tell you where to get one.

How much can you run off a car battery anyway? We used to do a bunch of yacht sailing and people often had fridges, chart plotters and interior+navigation lights all running, but IIRC those were big-ass marine/lorry batteries.

I'd have thought a couple of 20W lights and maybe a small hi-fi should go for ages - when a battery gives you it's Ah rating how much of a pinch of salt should be taken when calculating real-world use?

Capacity is usually rated at a given current draw / discharge rate. Car batteries are designed for short high current bursts i.e. starter motors, rather than being deeply discharged at a low current, which will tend to knacker them after a few cycles.

In general discharge at or below the rated current should give you access to the rated capacity of the battery.

While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

So you need "deep cycle " batteries

I can't comprehend a contractor living somewhere with his garage in a block over the road. How common.

You have an odd view of 'common'. In a city it's pretty normal for garages to be separate.

Not such an odd view then is it.
