Papal infallibility isn't something that applies on a day-to-day basis to anything and everything. It relates to certain rulings (though not all) on matters of doctrine. So if the Pope says "This lasagne tastes like donkey" it doesn't mean the lasagne must have actually been made with donkey meat; that was just a lucky guess.

The issue is also clouded by the fact that nobody, including the Pope, seems to be quite sure what's infallible and what isn't.

Just got a text from the Pope:

"Take me out of the Vatican City, where the mass is keen and the boys are pretty"
      Awkward

I've heard he's resigned to go to a new gig as manager of a feline sanctuary.

After all, he is the leader of the worlds cataholics.

What I don't understand is why the BBC News site has put up a "live event" page. What do they expect to happen next?

No need to pontificate about it.

And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014
