I think it must be something to do with the article being so old. If you do a post search for SallyAnne, her posts only go back to 2009.Originally posted by Troll View PostYet if you do an advanced Search for keyword HMRC & user name SallyAnne it returns ziltch... or is it me?And the lord said unto John; "come forth and receive eternal life." How? How? Just...how can a contractor *not* know what IR35 is?Originally posted by Andy2 View PostLots of contractors don't even know what IR35 is .
I'm not doubting you, but I fail to see just how someone can be so stupidly unaware of IR35.Comment

I asked many contractors at various clients. Most of them hadn't a clue .Originally posted by RasputinDude View PostHow? How? Just...how can a contractor *not* know what IR35 is?

Some of them were even long term contractors at the same client.
Just ask around and see how many are aware.Comment

I'd rather not; stupidity of that level is bad for my blood pressure.Originally posted by Andy2 View PostJust ask around and see how many are aware.Comment

If they don't browse CUK why would they? It's hardly headline grabbing news.Originally posted by RasputinDude View PostHow? How? Just...how can a contractor *not* know what IR35 is?

Of course I know about IR35 (I choose to ignore it) but I was talking to a fellow contractor earlier who was thinking about going ltd and he didn't have a clue.Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave JohnsonComment

Well, I just googled "IT contracting in the UK" and seven out of the top ten hits mentioned IR35. In addition, I would expect anyone who starts out contracting to speak to experienced contractors first to find out about the pitfalls etc.Originally posted by gingerjedi View PostIf they don't browse CUK why would they? Its the crock of tulip search engine on this site. Admin admitted as much awhile ago and said he was going to improve it I think. I tried to use the search to find his posted and came up with nothing... so guess that says it allOriginally posted by Troll View PostYet if you do an advanced Search for keyword HMRC & user name SallyAnne it returns ziltch... or is it me?

You seeing why I get so upset now??? There are 30 + contractors on our floor and I speak to 5 of them about IR35. The rest range from being vaguely aware but they 'have insurance' to the other 15 that are ex employees of the client, waited 3 months as per their contracts before returning as 'contractors' and don't have a clue. 2 of them have been using a brolly for 2 years as it's too much hassle doing a LTD. It beggars belief.Originally posted by RasputinDude View PostI'd rather not; stupidity of that level is bad for my blood pressure.
Problem is I am that person with the tulipty luck that out of all 30+ within eyesight I will be the one that gets investigated
Just spending time in the prof forums convinces me that this isn't just my client.'CUK forum personality of 2011 - Winner - Yes really!!!!
