George Osborne orders deeper cuts after next election

" More public sector workers are facing the sack after the Chancellor ordered ministers to draw up plans for cutting spending in their departments in the 2015-16 financial year.

At a meeting of the Cabinet in Downing Street this morning, the Chancellor told his colleagues that it would be necessary to do “more with less”, Number 10 said.

The only areas of public spending to be protected will be schools, the NHS, and overseas aid.

The details of the fresh cuts will be announced in a spending review in the first half of this year. The new austerity measures will be on top of the current squeeze on public spending, announced after the coalition was formed in 2010.

Although the cuts will not come into force until weeks before the next election 2015, both the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats will be committed to decisions. "

Sounds to me like they don't want to cut anything now, but will vote for cuts to be in effect after next election, naturally they'll lose it but Labour won't cancel planned cuts by nasty Tories.

We are not serious about the financial mess we are in, most politicians do not even know the difference between the deficit and the debt.

Good grief - the public sector having to become efficient - whatever next

Efficient is not the same as cheaper. In fact I'd posit a general rule that when buying anything there is a minimum amount that you have to spend in order that you aren't simply wasting money.
