Is the iPhone finished?

I had an iPhone 3GS back when that came out. I liked it a lot (although no Apple-fangirl otherwise). When my contract came up for renewal the cost of the 4G was outrageous. I got a Nokia N900 (linux phone, cause linux on phones is really nothing new), which was pretty cool. Got an HTC Desire HD thereafter and was pretty happy with that. For the past year I've had a Blackberry 9900. Love the usability, typing, etc - but Blackberrys are clearly on the way out in terms of apps/support, so wouldn't get another.
I'd consider another iPhone - if it was priced competitively. As it stands they're too expensive for what little they do. Aside from the humongous size, I quite like the Samsung Galaxy Note II at the moment, but won't be upgrading till at least October anyway, so I'll see what's out then.Comment

Originally posted by CheeseSlice View PostBBC News - Apple suppliers' shares fall on report of cut in orders
Is it about the latest handset, the maps cock up, and people sticking with the 4s or 4, or is there a more fundamental erosion of interest in their phones?
I don't have one and never will. Any owners got any thoughts?
For a start, the Nikkei report they quote did not say that Apple had cut orders for the phone, but for the displays.
Furthermore, the numbers cited in the Nikkei report simply don't add up. They claim Apple had ordered 65 million displays, and had now halved that order. All industry expectations and past experience suggest that, for the March quarter covered by those orders, Apple would sell around 30 million iPhone 5s, maybe 40 million if they did really well. They will also need displays for a few million iPod Touches, which use the same screen. So why would they have ordered 65 million displays for a period when they expect to sell, at most, 40 million devices that use them?
Remember, all that's happened is that one Japanese newspaper has printed a rumour they heard from an unidentified source; they have no proof that the figure they start from is correct. Then the same story just gets endlessly recycled, because news sites know that any story claiming Apple is in trouble will make them money through page views. (The BBC then has to report it just because everybody else has.)
Furthermore, Apple is about to announce its quarterly results. This means it is legally prevented from making any statement about this kind of thing by US regulations - although knowing Apple, it wouldn't bother anyway.
Some financial whizz on here can no doubt explain how it might be advantageous to somebody to circulate a rumour that Apple was struggling, thereby depressing the share price of both Apple and its suppliers, just before it announces record sales over the Christmas period, thereby making the same share prices shoot up.
But surely nobody would be so mendacious as to do that; and surely the world's technical and financial journalists wouldn't be so stupid as to spread the story, despite its obvious holes, merely to boost their own page views, and thus advertising revenue? Would they?Comment

Pricing aside, iOS is looking seriously outdated now. They really need to do some of that innovation that fanbois like to tell you Apple are so good at, or just switch to Android and have done with it.
Plus there's the whole image of the iPhone user, which has got to be hurting them a lot now that there's so many good alternatives. Will work inside IR35. Or for food.Comment

The thing that still puts me off Android phones is that they all look like misshapen blobs of plastic. If you could get an iPhone case with an Android phone inside I might be interested.Comment
