    I opted out.

My youngest daughter is 18 in April and finishes normal education in June 2013.

So was coming to an end anyway, to be honest I thought it was going to be stopped in September 2012, but it wasn't.

    No great loss.

Despite having 5 kids I have never claimed it
Let us not forget EU open doors immigration benefits IT contractors more than anyone

Probably because they live with their mothers.

What I don't understand about the new rules, surely you must have to tell HMRC/DWP that one of you is above the threshold so why is it harder to disclose the household income rather than individuals, not sure where this extra administration comes into it

You can either voluntarily give it up, or you can let your tax return sort it out after you've already been paid it. I assume there will be a new tick box for Child Benefit, if you've earned over 50K it'll start taking it back off you, at 60K it's all gone. The problem is that lots of PAYE people don't already do a self assessment.

I'm not sure that "Child Benefit" isn't something of an oxymoron.

Free money? Who'd want to give it up; my kids CB goes straight into their ISA's, so it's a case of modifying money management...

If these idiots carry on, I'll pay myself min wage and claim working tax credits too.

It's about increasing marginal tax rate.

This was politically easier than slapping 2% on the upper tax rate.

                      It's soak the rich.

If I'm short of money I stop spending on frivolous things, the government doesn't it just calls it investment and spends more whilst threatening the middle class until they pay up.
