          Well there you go. Having come over to the US at great time and expense with the view to save a failing project and to great fanfare. Ta da da!!!

          Arrived with a flourish. Immediately hired two contractors. Got developers assigned. PM in place. Took full control myself of reverse engineering the 'agile' developed product from feedback from users but with no actual requirements, I have successfully managed to pull the project from the flames, have a bloody good look, capture the real business requirements and then discover that it's a piece of
          unrecoverable tulip that doesn't actually meet the business requirements that they should have documented in the first place!!!!

          I've pushed it back in the bloody fire. Fooling agile!!!! Grrrr.

                Agile differs from other methodologies in one important way; given a team full of incompetent halfwits you can comprehensively screw everything up much more quickly and disastrously than with waterfail.

                The secret of making any methodology work is to hire competent people. HR departments and purchasing departments are even worse at doing that than Project Managers.

                  A previous set of Sales engineers would perform prototyping for clients and hand the consultants the resultant code. They used to consider this Agile. For me, agile programming is simply prototyping, in essence. But, as you have said, with competant people, this shouldn't be an issue.

                      But the advantage agile is that you should discover the mistake quickly.

                      And that it will be so obvious to any half competent new recruit what happened, why it happened and to put in place escape procedures asap.
