Well it looks like Tunisia is the safest place to go. Only 9000 guns in the country. I reckon there's more than that in a 10 square mile area of where I am now! What happens in General, stays in General. You know what they say about assumptions! -
Not if they are taking a one way ticket out, it would never stop things like the cinema shootings, etc as the people are checking out; suicide by cop etcOriginally posted by sbakoola View PostIts a tricky one... as Chris Rock said .. the problem is not gun control its bullet control ! ... slap a massive tax on bullets... making them 1000% more expensive and then make these bozos think twice about shooting what would be the equivalent of silver bullets at poor innocents.
Most people round here have a gun of some sort, including me. I shoot rabbits and pigeons, and foxes if they're dumb enough to come by. Haven't heard of anyone going postal in rural Zomerset.
It's not guns, or gun control, it's, imo, a lot to do with education.Last edited by Old Hack; 16 December 2012, 17:13.Comment

Its almost impossible to to the Derrick Bird type shootings. But the Hungerford and Dunblane type should be preventable.Originally posted by Old Hack View PostNot if they are taking a one way ticket out, it would never stop things like the cinema shootings, etc as the people are checking out; suicide by cop etc

I genuinely think there should be more joined up thinking, in that if someone is at their quacks and is being treated, or there's a suspicion of mental health issues, there should be a flag on his/her record stating they hold firearms, and maybe their permits should be removed until they've been proven to have recovered, or they need to reapply afterwards. Mine was given to me on the back of having land, having two referees and stating it was for pest reasons. Very quick.Comment

But in the US anyone can get hold of a gun with very little effort and a significant minority are feckin idiots, I'm not making light of mental illness but you have to be an idiot to hold 4 guns knowing there was a fruit loop living in the same house and not taking measures to ensure they aren't easily accessible.Originally posted by Old Hack View Post

There is no solution without recognition that the wild west was over 200 years ago and the threat of Russia invading isn't a likely scenario, just let them get on with it, people get the government they deserve etc etc.Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave JohnsonComment
