The thing that f**ks me right off is hearing Obama say "we have to take meaningful action". What a kn0b! The only meaningful action to take is a gun ban like civilized countries of the world.

To try to make political gains out of this obscene.

Two things actually.

They need to deal with guns obviously. Assault rifles, semi automatics??? WTF is all that about

Second they need to put state funded money into mental health programs. A trip to any city sees wide eyed mentally disturbed individuals on every street corner shouting or barking at the moon. Because healthcare has to be paid for those with mental health issues don't get the help they need. If you have someone with mental health issues in a house they should a) get state funded help and medication and b) nobody in the house should have a gun licence.

Usually it seems to be people who are a bit weird but not barking. You can't lock up everyone who is weird.

And the same arguments made in favour of legalising drugs can be made in favour of legalising guns.

I believe it would take decades to go away. The US is so vast and the borders stretch so far the continued smuggling and storing of guns would be near impossible to fix.

There are people who are not deterred by penalties and would continue to smuggle guns at high profits - it would create a whole new illegal gang industry.

Maybe the solution is more help for people with mental health issues.

Just watched this on the news. Heartbreaking.

But what I really don't get is why a middle aged woman would need/want to own 4 guns?

I worked for a few a US companies in my time last one I started at a few weeks back. Its the first time I have an induction at a US firm where not only did it cover fire alarm etc but it also covered what you should do if someone comes into office shooting at random, even had an official term for it. I know there is a big argument around why yanks have guns etc, but to he honest its lost on me as guns = bad.
