I avoid all of the so called "social network" sites like the plague unless looking something specific up or directed to a fun or interesting link.

I've no desire to spread info about myself to a random massive audience.

I only share what I want people to know, all of these sites have adequate security settings, if you know and understand them. My twitter is open, but mainly anonymised so 99% of the people won't know who I am, facebook however is the other way rounds, tightly restricted with personal information

That irony hadn't passed me by.

I have little to absolutely no faith in the security of the social networking sites, frankly I think anyone who trusts them is rather naive.

I am not saying I trust them, I am saying I understand them, I only share what I am willing people to know

They spend more on their data centres than pretty much anyone else does, including banks I reckon.

Do you still bother with it or is it just noise like facebook status updates.

I use Twitter and find it very helpful. The local council tweets interesting stuff like floods, road closures, accidents etc. Sky tweets breaking news etc. And of course, I can find out what friends are upto. When bored, I can read comments on topical issues using a hashtag. I think it's great.
