You really do the UK a disservice if you think for all it's history and all it's achievements that the Queen is all we have to offer. Tourists visit the UK for many reasons and if the Royal Family disappeared tomorrow would not make much difference. -
Except the £100m PA they cost, think what we could spend that on. Improved transport links, redeveloping run down areas, museums, art galleries, hospitals.Originally posted by LatteLiberal View PostYou really do the UK a disservice if you think for all it's history and all it's achievements that the Queen is all we have to offer. You don't know much about Americans
People come for many reasons but the Royal Family is a big draw - tourism for the Jubilee was massive, as was foreign news coverage. In fact the Jubilee tells you all you need to know about the popularity and profitability of the RF.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

Even if we claim most of the £500m would still be gathered, a 20% drop is quite realistic even by pessimistic standards. So that £100m wouldn't be gained.Originally posted by Ketchup View PostExcept the £100m PA they cost, think what we could spend that on. And you conveniently forget much of that £100m would still be spent on upkeep and employing people even if they were simply tourist attractions.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

and you are forgetting that that £500m comes into the country, and is not directly offset against the £100m they cost. Some of that £500m will be spent on imported goods for example.Originally posted by d000hg View PostEven if we claim most of the £500m would still be gathered, a 20% drop is quite realistic even by pessimistic standards.
