What is the cause of your moving? What do you want from London when you get there? Assuming you do work any idea what you will be doing?

There is so much happening in London, culturally, politically, economically, so I want to have access to that. It's one of the true centers of the world.

            There or Shoreditch.

            Or maybe Clerkenwell...

              Angel is a good shout.

Clerkenwell Green if money is no object.

Well for long term investment I would look around the Nine Elms/Vauxhall area. US embasy is going to be moving there and lots of money is going to be going into the area to spruce it up. For 1/2 a million you can buy a one bed in most new build developments in Zone 2 with some change.

Depending on where you want to hang out Angel and Shoreditch are quite trendy at the moment but expensive too. In Zone 1 I rented a place in Pimlico a few years back and enjoyed it (central location but cheaper than Kensington and Chelsea and similar housing stock) but like BP said you're never too far away from a not so good part of town.
