Curious as to why they picked this family for the story? Pick an average family on average income and there would be a lot more sympathy.

We certainly don't feel as well off as we used to, not much has changed lifestyle wise but we struggle to save.

That's thirty quid a day on food for 4 people; 7.50 a day per person; what are they eating?

For a family of 4 we tend to spend ~ 150 / week on shopping. We could try and cut it down but we dont need to at present.

Our household income is >150K and I still identify myself as 'working class'. No degrees in this house just a bit of luck and hard work. I was at Tate Britain last weekend to see the PRB exhibition and really felt like a fish out of water with the sheer amount of pretentious prats talking tulipe like they knew what they were on about; I despise all that elitism. I'm no better than a hard working toilet cleaner, just luckier to be mildly intelligent and had some breaks that worked out.

Its an American definition high earner / businessman = middle class. They never had any because like the french they killed or deported the royals & aristocracy, in response those with middle class leanings hid them in case they were thought posh.
