That's what I was thinking, and he'll have a few speeding fines, theft of aeroplanes, co-respondent in divorce cases.

Wonder how his SO is? Mal?

Anyway, is he not meant to be Scottish, like in the books.

We want him back now, you can take Rod Stewart back, he has been tulipe since the 80s and we have no use for him anymore.

Mr Bond, you can't start your mission on Monday morning. We are still waiting two references.

don't worry as soon as Scotland is independent he will be back to tell everyone how to spend the tax he doesn't pay. Just like Bono.

Now I am no racist or anything but .. seriously? Am I the only one that thinks that this just isn't in keeping with who James Bond is? Idris is a great actor and I am sure the film will be very watchable... but will it be James Bond I am watching? This one doesn't seem right at all.
For me colour isn't an issue. Now if they tried to make the next Bond not British then there would be holy heck kicked up.

Doesn't matter what they look like as long as they can pull the dry bond British humor off.

I think the only reason a black Bond would seem weird is that they were all white before. If one of the earlier Bonds had been black we'd probably think nothing of it.
That is exactly what I mean. Just doesn't seems odd. No other issue than that really. I know it is just me not moving with the times and not accepting change really, just, well, I dunno. Somethings just don't need changing sometimes. Flip side is maybe it does need changing as Minestrone says... but will it be the same.

Some kind of irony there I think

Off the top of my head, I thought he was English but went to Fettes in Edinburgh. Could be wrong though.

what like an Aussie (yank) William Wallace or Jack Aubrey?

assuming Wikipedia can be trusted its already happened

In 1954 CBS paid Ian Fleming $1,000 ($8,654 in 2012 dollars[86]) to adapt his novel Casino Royale into a one-hour television adventure as part of its Climax! series.[87] The episode aired live on 21 October 1954 and starred Barry Nelson as "Card Sense" James 'Jimmy' Bond and Peter Lorre as Le Chiffre.[88] The novel was adapted for American audiences to show Bond as an American agent working for "Combined Intelligence", while the character Felix Leiter—American in the novel—became British onscreen and was renamed "Clarence Leiter".[89]

                      gotta see that!

oh and he did pull it off:

                      Best Line
Leiter: "Are you the fellow that was shot?"
Bond: "No, I'm the fellow that was missed"
